Columbia River Basalt Louie Rock
A practical, blocky wall stone with two or three flat faces on most pieces, which makes it the easiest local basalt to stack without trial and error. The shapes are rougher and chunkier than A-Split or Ledgestone, so the finished wall reads more natural and less architectural. Louie Rock is a strong pick for longer rural runs, garden walls, and any project where the natural, hand-fit look beats a tight cut-stone face.
The pieces are roughly the size of a volleyball or larger, with the same dark gray to near-black color as the rest of the Columbia River basalt line. Coverage runs 14 to 18 square feet per ton stacked, which is typical for irregular wall rock. Plan on a wider base course and a slight backward lean into the slope on retaining applications.

- Dry-stacked retaining walls: Build natural-looking walls up to about 4 feet tall without engineered reinforcement
- Garden and bed walls: Edge planting areas with a low wall that holds soil and reads as part of the landscape
- Rural and large-property walls: Cover long runs where a natural, hand-fit look fits the setting
- Rockery and slope work: Combine with boulders and gravel on hillsides to stabilize grade and add visual weight
- Fire pit and seat-wall bases: Stack two or three courses for an informal seating ring or pit surround
