Washougal Gray Basalt Curbstone
A heavy, cubic-shaped basalt in light to medium gray, quarried in Washougal, Washington just across the Columbia from Portland. Each piece runs 5 to 8 inches thick and 10” – 20” on each side, giving the stone a substantial, blocky presence that holds its shape and position once set. The roughly equal dimensions on all sides distinguish curbstone from thinner stacking stones, which makes it the right pick for borders, edging, and any application where each piece needs to read as a discrete block.
The gray coloring is lighter and more uniform than the dark gray of standard Columbia River basalt, which gives walls and borders a softer, more contemporary feel while keeping the durability and weather resistance of volcanic stone. Coverage runs 10 to 12 square feet per ton stacked, which is lower than thinner wall stones because the pieces are thick and three-dimensional rather than length-emphasized.
