Washougal Gray Basalt Ledgestone
A long, rectangular basalt in light to medium gray, quarried in Washougal, Washington just across the Columbia from Portland. Each piece runs 3 to 6 inches thick with length-emphasized faces, giving the stone a flat, layered profile that stacks into tight horizontal courses. The long, low shape distinguishes ledgestone from blockier wall stone, which makes it the right pick for veneer facing, freestanding walls, and borders where a banded, contemporary look is wanted.
The gray coloring is lighter and more uniform than the dark gray of standard Columbia River basalt, which gives walls a softer, modern feel while holding the durability and weather resistance of volcanic stone. Coverage runs 30 to 35 square feet per ton stacked, higher than thicker wall stones because the flat pieces cover more face per ton.
